Basketball
Winter — November to February
Basketball at BHAA is a competitive, high school-level program where student-athletes are challenged to grow in both their skills and their faith. We believe the intensity of competition — the pressure of a close game, the discipline of daily practice, the lessons of a tough loss — provides fertile ground for building Christlike character. Our players learn to persevere through adversity, to encourage their teammates, and to honor God with their effort and attitude whether they win or lose.
Girls Basketball
This year, we’re excited to add a girls team to our basketball program, giving young women the opportunity to compete and grow on the court. Our girls program is just getting started, so please help us spread the word — tell any homeschool families with girls who might love to play!
Coaching Philosophy
Our basketball coaching staff are volunteers committed to glorifying God through the game. We hold our players to a high standard — not just in their jump shot, but in their conduct, their words, and their treatment of teammates, opponents, and officials. We believe the basketball court is a classroom for life, and we coach accordingly. Playing time is earned through effort, attitude, coachability, and character as much as through athletic ability. We ask parents to partner with us by reinforcing these values at home and supporting the team through volunteering, encouragement, and prayer.
Schedule
Practices begin in November (open gyms start in October) with games typically scheduled the beginning of December through mid-February (with travel to Kalispell, Helena, Polson, and other cities as the calendar allows). BHAA schedules games against Christian schools and other homeschool teams.
Summer Open Gym
Boys are invited to summer open gym every Monday from 6:00–8:00 PM at the Lone Rock School gym, all summer long. It’s a casual chance to stay sharp, build friendships, and get ready for the season ahead — all skill levels welcome.
Eligibility
Please carefully review the MCAA eligibility requirements on our Info & Documents page. Your student must currently be homeschooled and in grades 8-12. There are some exceptions for grade 7 students.
Quality of Play
This is competitive basketball, with high school rules. Playing time will be based on skill-sets, hustle, ability, performance, not to mention attitude toward your teammates and others. There is no guarantee of playing time or position. Our goal is to provide a high-quality, balanced program where talented athletes can grow physically and spiritually and where Jesus Christ is honored in all respects.
