Ski & Snowboard
Winter — January to March
The BHAA Ski & Snowboard program offers homeschool students a chance to hit the slopes at Lost Trail Powder Mountain while building discipline, courage, and friendships rooted in shared faith. Skiing and snowboarding are individual pursuits set in God’s stunning creation — and they teach young athletes to face fear, push through discomfort, and trust the process of steady improvement. Whether your student is carving their first turns or racing competitively, our program provides a supportive, Christ-centered environment where every run is an opportunity to grow.
Coaching Philosophy
Our ski and snowboard instructors are volunteers who love the mountain and love investing in young people. Because snow sports are inherently individual, our coaching focuses on personal growth, perseverance, and stewardship — caring for the equipment, the mountain, and one another. We encourage students to cheer each other on, to help a struggling friend on a tough run, and to see every improvement as a gift from God to be received with gratitude. Parents play a key role in transportation, supervision, and encouragement on ski days.
Schedule
The Snow Sports School runs January through March at Lost Trail Powder Mountain, located at the Montana/Idaho border south on Highway 93.
Equipment Rental
The rental office opens at 9:00 a.m. To avoid long lines, it is recommended that you get in line by 8:45 a.m. A parent must sign the rental equipment agreement form for each student each ski day.
Lift Ticket Pick-Up
On program days, lift tickets will be available for pick-up in the ski lodge at the “Home School” table between 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.
Mandatory Lessons
Lessons begin anywhere from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will not be assigned until the morning of each program day. Students are allowed to ski before and after their lessons, but they need to keep track of time so they do not miss their lesson. Students who skip their lesson will pay the full price of the lift ticket and rental and will no longer be eligible to participate in the program.
Refund Policy
A refund will ONLY be given if Lost Trail closes the mountain OR if you have a doctor’s note documenting illness submitted to the program coordinator by NOON on the Wednesday before your scheduled ski day.
Eligibility
The Lost Trail Powder Mountain Homeschool Ski Program is under the umbrella of the Bitterroot Homeschool Athletic Association, and is open to Bitterroot Valley and Missoula area homeschoolers. Skiers must be 7 years old, and snowboarders must be 9 years old to participate.
